How do I email a screen shot to support?

When using ezimerchant Professional you may come across program errors, or strange messages that can appear on your screen. Sometimes these errors will be self explanatory and you can fix the problem yourself, but sometimes you may not be able to fix the error and you may need to contact the Technical Support department to solve the problem.

By making a 'screen shot' of the error message and emailing it to the support department you can assist the support technicians to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

Please follow the instructions below to create a screenshot of an error message and send it to the Technical Support department.

STEP 1

Make the error appear (most errors don't go away easily so this shouldn't be too hard)

STEP 2

Now that the error is on the screen we need to take a snap shot of the screen. To do a snap shot of the screen all you need to do is press the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard. This function will make a copy of whatever is on the screen at the time and copy it to your computers clipboard. (The clipboard is a section of your computers memory that can be used to store information temporarily. The clipboard is also used when you copy and paste text etc.)

STEP 3

Once you have the screen shot in your clipboard you need to save it to your hard drive as a picture file. The easiest way is to paste the contents of the clipboard into a paint/image program and then save it to disk as an image file. For this example we will use the Microsoft Paint program. 'Paint' comes standard with most Windows Operating systems. The Paint program can be found in the Accessories group in your Start menu.

Open paint by selecting its icon in the Start->Programs->Accessories menu. A window similar to the following will be displayed...

STEP 4

From the 'Edit' menu select the 'paste' option as show below...

Microsoft Paint will now attempt to copy the screen shot which is stored in the clip board memory of your PC to the Paint's main screen. Because the paint program only gives you a small space to work on when you first open it, you will be presented with a small box that will say "The image on the clipboard is larger than the bitmap. Would you like the bitmap enlarged?" To this you will need to say 'Yes'.

You should now see a copy of the screen shot within Microsoft Paint's window as shown below...

STEP 5

Now that your screen shot is in the Microsoft Paint program's window you can now save it to disk as a picture file. To do this select the 'File' menu and then select 'Save' as demonstrated below...

After clicking 'Save' the following window will display...

Now enter a file name for your screen shot and save it to your computer's Desktop. Make sure you select the JPG file format before saving. The JPG file format saves space and will make your file much smaller than saving it as BMP.

STEP 6

Now that you have your screen shot saved as a picture file on your Desktop you can email the picture to the technical support department by attaching it to an email. Make sure that you include information with your email such as your name, email address, registration number, web site URL and any other relevant information that you think might help the Support Technicians solve your problem.
